Originally the homestead for Birch Hill Station, it has also been a Children’s home under the name of the Ford Millton Home, but since 1990 it has been a private home occupying the surrounding 45 acres.

Please feel free to explore the grounds and we would recommend that you wonder down the raceway to the Birch Hill Cemetery where there is a fitting memorial to the horses sent from Birch Hill Station to the Western Front in the First World War.

Please remain in the areas that are open and do not enter any paddocks that have closed gates as there are cattle, including a large bull in these closed off areas.

Please note that all the fences on this property are “electrified”.

There are refreshments available from the old implement shed at the rear of the homestead. Loburn School Home & School Committee is providing these refreshments as part of an outdoor camp fundraising project.  Purchasing of these refreshments are CASH ONLY.

There are toilet facilities situated at the northern side of the homestead near the refreshments area.

DIRECTIONS TO BIRCH HILL

• Travel north on Christchurch northern motorway to last off ramp – Lineside Road (sign posted Rangiora/Kaiapoi)
• Turn left into Lineside Rd and travel towards Rangiora.  Travel over railway crossing into Rangiora and stay on that main road and follow signs to Loburn
• Once through the township you will come across the Ashley River Bridge.   Travel over bridge and continue to follow signs to Loburn
• You will travel past the Loburn Reserve on your right and just after that you will come to Hodgsons Rd on the left.  Turn left into this road.
• You will pass the Loburn School on your left.  You will travel on this road for approximately 19 kms.
• You will travel over the Okuku River Bridge and eventually you will travel over the Garry River Bridge (one way bridge)
• Just after crossing the Garry River Bridge you will come up a slight rise and you will come to Mile Rd on your right.
• Turn right into Mile Rd (gravel road) and travel along until you reach a fork in the road.  There are 4 letter boxes at this junction.  Turn right into Garry River Rd and Birch Hill is 800 metres on the right hand side.  There is a set of walls and a sign posted set of gates displaying “Birch Hill Homestead” and a cattle stop at the entrance
