Informed Collecting through Education
In 2011 Watson’s Specialist Auctioneers and Valuers are committed to do more than simply sell art or antiques. We have made it a companywide goal to work on the educational aspect of the arts.
Our goal is to take art to the people. To explain it in a way that is neither patronizing nor pretentious. This is often difficult as many people come into a gallery with a closed mind. They will tell you straight away that, “I know what I like” This may be true but it may also mean, “I like what I know”. At Watsons we are determined to try to increase the “knowing” If done correctly we will surely increase the “liking”
how do you educate people on the arts?
It all starts with content. Great content that encourages dialogue. We are proud to have partnered with many of the most respected art scholars in New Zealand and the USA to bring you great content.
Contributors will include
Dr Warren Feeney
Neil Roberts
Jim Geddes
Peter Simpson
Megan Konkin
We will also be speaking with and interviewing great artists both new and old from New Zealand and beyond.
It is our goal in 2011 to build up a library of essays, articles and video to stimulate interest in the arts. Your participation in this project will be both encouraged and appreciated.
